The news utility prints news items stored in /var/news. When invoked without any arguments, news prints the name and timestamp of each current item followed by its contents, most recent first. An item is considered ``current'' if it has a modification time newer than the file ~/.news_time, a file that news creates if it does not exist. If that file does exist, news will update the timestamp on that file each time it is run. This version of the System V news utility was written by Jan Schaumannfollowing the manual page from an IRIX system.

Binary packages can be installed with the high-level tool pkgin (which can be installed with pkg_add) or pkg_add(1) (installed by default). The NetBSD packages collection is also designed to permit easy installation from source.
The pkg_admin audit command locates any installed package which has been mentioned in security advisories as having vulnerabilities.
Please note the vulnerabilities database might not be fully accurate, and not every bug is exploitable with every configuration.
Problem reports, updates or suggestions for this package should be reported with send-pr.
